BRACHYCEPHALIC OBSTRUCTIVE AIRWAY DISEASE (BOAS)

French Bulldogs, Boston Terriers, Pugs, Shih Tzu’s, Pekingese, Lhasa Apso’s and British Bulldogs are all very popular at the moment for their playful personalities. Brachycephalic means Short Headed or Short Nosed.

Unfortunately, they all suffer from BOAS, which refers to the combination of Stenotic Nares, Elongated Soft Palate, Enlarged Tonsils, Everted Laryngeal Ventricles and Hypoplastic Trachea. All of which may compromise their breathing and may severely restrict their lifestyles and lifespan.

Surgery done early in their life may help to lessen these defects.
