Hip Dysplasia is a genetic disease that causes debilitating arthritis in the hip joints of some dogs. Using PennHIP radiographs, responsible dog breeders can check their dogs before mating to ensure that they do not pass this on to future generations.
Specific X-rays are taken and sent to the Pennsylvania University Hip Improvement Program (PennHIP) for evaluation and comparison to other dogs of that breed.
If the dog’s score is better than the average, then breeding from it will result in the average getting better.
